The best free weightlifting resources, rechecked
I put a version of this list together in 2016 and gave it away as a PDF. Ten years on, most of it holds up and some of it doesn't, so here it is again with every link checked and the dead ones marked.
This isn't a complete list and it isn't meant to be. It's a jumping off point. All of it is free.
California Strength
The gym I trained at, under Glenn Pendlay and then Dave Spitz. The YouTube channel's instructional section is still one of the best free libraries anywhere: three part How to Snatch, three part How to Clean, two part How to Jerk, plus a pile of posterior chain work.
Hookgrip
Training hall and competition footage of the best lifters alive, much of it in slow motion. There's no better way to actually see a position than to watch someone world class hold it at half speed.
All Things Gym
Gregor's site is still the fastest place to find international competition coverage, training hall footage and big lifts. If something happened in weightlifting this week, it's here.
Torokhtiy Weightlifting
Oleksiy Torokhtiy won 105kg gold in 2012 and has built a serious coaching operation since. He still gives away a full intro program: store.torokhtiy.com/products/free-weightlifting-intro-program
Mash Elite Performance
Travis Mash has an unusual resume, real success as both an athlete and a coach across powerlifting and weightlifting. The blog is good. The Barbell Life podcast is better.
IronMind
Less how-to, more classic footage: Bulgarian training hall, world record lifts, the Big Lifts series. You learn a lot just watching masters of sport work.
Sean Waxman
Changed since 2016Waxman's Gym has closed since I first put this list together, and the blog went with it. Coach Waxman himself is still worth following, and he's on this site: he filmed a first pull fix with me.
Gayle Hatch
Changed since 2016The Hatch Dome is gone. Coach Hatch's own site is still up, and the Hatch squat program he's known for lives at hatchsquat.com. Over 50 national championships and six Olympians, so the information outlives the website it was on.
And this site
The Lifting Fix is 64 free technique fixes, filed by the fault they fix rather than by the date they went out. If you want the one that applies to you, answer four questions and it'll tell you.
